About Adams Country Republican Women (ACRW)

We are women working together to encourage each other to have the courage to take action and to help each other move towards making Colorado the great conservative state it once was. Uniting as one, with God. Combining our individual talents together to be “a force to be reckoned with”, first within our county then to our State Capital.

History of ACRW

The Republican Trumpeteers of Adams County is affiliated with the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) and the Colorado Federation of Republican Women (CFRW).

The NFRW was founded in 1938 and with over 95,000 members, it is the largest women’s partisan political organization in the United States with unit clubs in all 50 states as well as in the District of Columbia, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. The CFRW has over 2200 members in 52 unit clubs in the state at this time.

The Republican Trumpeteers of Adams County (also called the Trumpeteers or Adams County Republican Women/Trumpeteers) was organized in 1970 by Peggy Sanbourne with 100 members and received its charter from NFRW in 1971. Sanbourne also served as its first president in 1970-1971. Members commemorated their founding with a twentieth anniversary celebration in May, 1990.   Past president Maxine Shroyer served as CFRW President in 1990-1991. The CFRW Maxine Shroyer “Caring for Colorado” Award was named in her honor because of her concern for the community where she lived.

Mary Bevard is a long-time member who has also been honored by the CFRW. She created the dolls in The Mary Bevard Colorado Centennial First Lady Collection. The housing and care of the collection is an ongoing project of CFRW.

Through the years, The Republican Trumpeteers of Adams County has been honored by both the NFRW and the CFRW for its participation in their programs.

Among these awards were the NFRW Silver Award in 1985 and 1991, and the NFRW Gold Award in 1989. In September, 2005, the NFRW recognized the Republican Trumpeteers of Adams County with a Bronze Award at the NFRW Biennial Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

The CFRW has also recognized the Trumpeteers for its many accomplishments through the years including first place (tie) in 1990 and second place in 1994 for the prestigious Ruth Parks Award which is presented annually to the unit club that most effectively implements the programs of the CFRW. Several times through the years the Trumpeteers received the Mary Lane Award, which is awarded annually to the unit club with the most volunteer hours for political service hours contributed to the Republican Party and volunteer service to the community. April 1, 2012, the Trumpeteers received second place in the small club division for this award. Numerous other awards for membership, newsletters and scrapbooks have also been given over the years.

In 2010 The Republican Trumpeteers of Adams County celebrated their 40th Anniversary with a Potluck Picnic in the Park. The event was well attended by many Republican political candidates and elected officers as well as club members and CFRW officers. Along with other speeches and commemorative comments at the celebration, the club remembered past president (1980-81 and 2000-2001) Twyla Mohar, who had just passed away.

While providing opportunities for volunteerism and education, the Republican Trumpeteers of Adams County offers a means to make lasting friendships, become politically active, and be well-informed about current events.

Why Republican?

We are Republicans because…

  • I believe the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.

  • I believe in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.

  • I believe free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.

  • I believe government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.

  • I believe the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.

  • I believe the most effective, responsible and responsive government is the government closest to the people.

  • I believe Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.

  • I believe Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.

  • Finally, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

-Haley Barbour, former Republican National Committee Chairman, c. November 1994
